Carbon-activated charcoal has proven detoxifying and health and skin-improving benefits.1,2 Carbon-activated charcoal utilizes oxygen and its natural properties to penetrate the layers of the dermis. Additionally, carbon-activated charcoal draws out skin impurities, clears pores, reduces inflammation, and helps exfoliate the skin.2
At Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery, we use carbon-activated charcoal alone as a skin-clearing mask and with a specialty laser that is a treatment called a Carbon Laser Peel. The carbon-activated charcoal penetrates the dermis and settles in skin imperfections like scars, large pores, and fine lines. While a thin layer of carbon is on the skin, our nurse uses an Nd Yag laser, our TriBeam laser, on the carbon-treated area(s) of the skin. The laser is attracted to the carbon particles and targets bacteria and other skin concerns. The carbon particles allow the laser to provide additional therapeutic skin benefits in the areas that need improvement the most compared to using the laser alone.
Our Carbon Laser Peel is painless with no downtime and it can be performed on the face or body. Our Carbon Laser Peel is highly beneficial for people acne acne-prone skin, blackheads, enlarged pores, oily skin, dull skin, fine lines, and wrinkles. The treatment is also an excellent way to exfoliate and refresh your skin. The treatment leaves skin feeling softer, smoother, and firmer.
Carbon Laser Peel Benefits:
Exfoliating: As the carbon is targeted by the laser, it blasts away dead skin cells, and blackheads and effectively exfoliates the skin. The result is softer, radiant skin with reduced pore size and a more even skin tone.
Rejuvenating: Carbon peels also target the deep layers of the skin to stimulate collagen production, which in turn produces firmer, plumper skin, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, and leaves skin feeling tighter and glowing.
Acne and Oil Destroying: The heat produced by carbon peels has two additional benefits. 1) It reduces the p acne bacteria that helps reduce pimples and outbreaks. 2) It shrinks sebaceous glands (oil-producing glands), resulting in less oil production, and less pore congestion. Acne and oil-destroying treatments can be performed on the face on any part of the body including the back and chest. Carbon-activated charcoal has the ability to absorb oil and contaminants from deep within the pores. When the laser is passed over the treatment area it targets and destroys the carbon particles, taking any absorbed material with it.
Results:
Noticeable results can be experienced after a single treatment, but for maximum long-term results, we recommend regular treatments of the Carbon Laser Peel or other laser or light-based skin treatments offered at our office. With any skin-improving treatment at Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery, our Carbon Laser Peel should be supplemented by a good and regular skin-care routine. We also recommend daily use of a broad-spectrum sunscreen.
