CO2 Skin Resurfacing in Santa Rosa, CA
At Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery’s Facial Center of Excellence, we offer CO2 laser resurfacing to remove the damaged outer layers of the skin. Compared to an erbium laser, the CO2 Laser is effective in treating deeper wrinkles, lines, and scars. This type of laser procedure can also be used around the eyes and mouth as well as the entire face area.
What Is Surgical Co2 Laser Resurfacing?
With age, your skin will be affected by the effects of UV radiation, gravity, pollutants, and even routine facial movements which cause wrinkles and lines. With advanced laser technology, men and women can dramatically reduce unwanted lines and wrinkles.
The CO2 laser is a type of an ablative laser. At Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery, our CO2 laser works by removing deeper layers of the damaged skin while stimulating the regeneration of the healthy layer underneath. The laser technology uses pulsed Fc, or scattered light beams, to remove the dead skin cells.
Using scattered light minimizes heat damage that the skin would otherwise be exposed to. Additionally, it allows a more powerful carbon dioxide laser to penetrate deep into the skin to remove creases and wrinkles.
As the epidermis heals and regrows, the treated area appears smoother and tighter. Types of ablative treatments include the carbon dioxide (CO2) laser, the erbium laser and combination.
Surgical CO2 laser resurfacing is a facial rejuvenation procedure that uses a laser to improve the skin’s appearance and treat facial scars and signs of visible facial aging. Dr. Greg Chernoff is a recognized leader and teacher in aesthetic skin rejuvenation, including Laser Skin Resurfacing or Laser Exfoliation techniques. If you are looking for to reveal smoother, softer, and more youthful-looking skin, ask if CO2 Laser resurfacing will work for you.
How Is a Co2 Laser Resurfacing Procedure Performed?
Dr. Chernoff will perform your laser resurfacing procedure using either a twilight sedation or general anesthetic. This allows Dr. Chernoff to address deeper lines and significantly improve uneven skin texture.
Dr. Chernoff uses a handpiece to precisely focus the millisecond-long pulses of concentrated laser light into the targeted epidermis and mid-dermis of the skin. These quick blasts will remove the damaged top layer of skin, as well as stimulate new collagen formation. Wrinkles, fine lines, and scars are eradicated as the existing protein and dense elastic fibers are decreased. The results can range from subtle to dramatic, depending on the desires of a specific patient.*
Patients are discharged with a facial dressing, usually left on for the first night. When removed the next day, the skin will have a sunburned appearance. This will last from four to seven days, depending on the depth of exfoliation performed. During this time, patients are given detailed information on how to care for their skin. A new layer of skin appears in four to seven days.*
There may be a slight redness to the skin, which may last several months depending on the condition of a patient’s skin, the depth of the peel, and the specific laser used.*
Dr. Chernoff’s team of expertly trained aestheticians and make-up artists will professionally assist you in camouflaging discoloration during the healing process.
