Neck Lift

Shape and Contour your neck in Santa Rosa, CA.

Even the healthiest individuals can begin to develop stubborn, concentrated areas of fat in their neck area. Excess fat in this part of the body is one of the most common signs of aging, leaving men and women feeling frustrated with their appearance. A neck lift performed by Dr. Greg Chernoff, triple board certified plastic surgeon in Santa Rosa may be the best way for patients to achieve enduring and natural-looking facial and neck improvements.

Why Does Excess Neck Fat Form?

Everyone is genetically predisposed to collecting more fat in some areas of their bodies than others. This genetic difference accounts for the wide variety of body shapes people can have and explains why people who eat right and exercise regularly can still develop excess fat in unusual areas of the body, including the hips, stomach, face, chin, and neck.

If you are genetically predisposed to hold excess fat in your neck area, diet and exercise won’t help to remove the fat nor tighten the sagging neck skin. Fortunately, there is an effective surgical procedure that can be used to correct this problem and provide a nice contour to your neck and jowls. Dr. Chernoff is an expert in neck lifting and contouring offering a Deep Plane Neck Lift for people with significant excess skin and fat as well as multiple minimally invasive methods and combinations for achieving beautifully contoured necks. Dr. Greg Chernoff can sculpt your ideal neck with minimally invasive surgical contouring including, liposculpting, Ellevate, FaceTite, and platysma muscle repair procedures. Because each patient is unique, Dr. Chenroff will recommend a treatment plan that may include one or a combination of procedures with the overall goal of slimming and reshaping the neck area.

Dr. Greg Chernoff has performed hundreds of cosmetic surgery and procedures for men in women in Santa Rosa, CA and the surrounding communities for over 20 years. Dr. Chernoff’s results are natural looking. His neck lifts do not look pulled or tight but sculpted and natural.*

Who Can Benefit From a Neck Lift?

As we age, vertical banding and horizontal creases often develop in the skin of the neck. Some of us may get a little more fat in the jowls often referred to as “turkey-wattle.” For some men and women, the dreaded “double chin” is often associated with weight gain. However, genetics and aging also influences the developing of fullness in the chin creating a double chin.

At Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery in Santa Rosa, CA, Dr. Chernoff provides a Deep Plane Neck Lift as well as minimally invasive neck contouring and combination neck contouring and neck lift procedures that provide long-lasting and natural-looking results.*

  • Neck contouring is ideal for individuals who are interested only in removing excess fat from the neck.
  • A combination of the procedures is ideal for individuals who would like to both remove fat from and tighten the skin of the neck.

Dr. Chernoff will recommend an appropriate surgical or non-surgical neck lift procedure to accomplish your neck rejuvenation and anti-aging goals.

How is a Neck Lift Performed?

At Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Chernoff uses Radio Frequency (RF) Assisted Liposculpting, one of the safest and most effective methods of liposculpting available today, for his neck lift procedures. Adding radio frequency to his neck lift procedures provides additional jawline contouring and skin tightening not possible from a neck lift procedures in the past.

Neck contouring performed alone without additional procedures is ideal for men and women who have extra neck fat and either:

  1. Neck skin that is not loose
  2. Neck skin that is loose but not hanging

Neck contouring and radio frequency skin tightening removes excess fat and provides some tightening of the neck skin.

If patients have extra neck fat and hanging skin, then Dr. Chernoff will perform a Deep Plane Neck Lift to remove the excess skin and provide a smooth, contoured look. A neck lift may or may not require muscle repair or tightening of the platysma muscle, which is the long structure that runs vertically against the front of the neck.

How is a Neck Lift Performed by Dr. Chernoff Different From Other Surgeons?

Dr. Chernoff’s neck lift procedures are different from other surgeons for three reasons:

  1. Placement of Incisions: Dr. Chernoff’s neck lift incisions are very small and hidden behind and at the base of the ear. Dr. Chernoff’s patients can wear their hair up and men with no hair will have no visible sign of surgery once healed.*
  2. Suture Technique: Dr. Chernoff’s uses a meticulous suture technique to close his incisions. He does not use staples in any of his surgeries. This method helps the skin heal with no visible sign of surgery.*
  3. Multi-Modality Combination Treatments: Dr. Chernoff uses a multi-modality approach to neck lift procedures. Every patient has different levels of aging, skin elasticity, and neck improvement goals. Dr. Chernoff may recommend combination approach of Ellevate to help with sagging muscles and glands to provide a natural looking defined neck. He may use FaceTite Radiofrequency skin tightening with his neck lift to help patients with significant skin elasticity. If patients have excess neck fat and neck banding, he will use liposuction to remove the fat and perform a platysmaplasty to repair the muscles.

During your consultation, Dr. Chernoff will examine your muscle and tissue structure and provide his recommendations for the procedure that will optimally achieve your neck shaping and contouring goals.

Neck contouring alone (without a neck lift) is performed in an accredited outpatient surgical center. Dr. Chernoff begins by injecting your neck with tumescent fluid, which is a combination of saline, local anesthetic, and epinephrine, which helps constrict blood vessels, reduce bleeding, and prevent bruising. The procedure takes 1-2 hours using sedation anesthesia.*

The first couple days after neck lift surgery you will need to take it easy doing small tasks for short periods of time. Most of our patients return to work in 1-5 days, depending more on bruising than on discomfort. After the plastic surgery procedure, you will wear the compression garment around your neck and head for several days, or longer based on the amount of fat removed. You will have a few tiny incisions that heal inconspicuously. It may be a couple of weeks before you can return to strenuous activities like running or lifting heavy weights.

Preparing for Neck Lift Surgery

Prior to any surgical procedure, Dr. Chernoff recommends that all our patients read our “Patient Guide for Plastic Surgery”. The guide explains important points that all patients should think about as they are considering a procedure.

What Can You Expect After Your Neck Lift Surgery?

After your procedure your neck may feel tight, and will have some bruising, which fades in a couple of weeks. Patients are discharged home with a compression garment that is worn around your neck and jaw areas. Patients typically report minimal pain.*

Recovery from a neck lift takes several weeks.* Following your neck lift surgery, Dr. Chernoff and his dedicated team of recovery and after care nurses will provide you with specific instructions regarding the best way to care for yourself. Following Dr. Chernoff’s post-surgery instructions is important as you will receive details on addressing swelling and bruising and managing any discomfort.

Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery patients who travel to our Santa Rosa office for their Neck Lift can choose to stay in our Guest House after their procedure. Our staff will advise you with the details.

Are There Non-surgical or Minimally Invasive Neck Lift Procedures?

For select patients, there are non-surgical options that may work to remove or reduce excess fat and help shape your neck. CoolSculpting® uses a method called cryptolysis, or fat freezing, to reduce unwanted fat under the chin. Kybella® is an injectable that reduces submental fullness (fat) and can reduce the appearance of a double chin.

Dr. Chernoff is excited to offer his patients a new, minimally invasive procedure that sculpts and refines your jawline and neck. ELEVATE® is an innovative procedure that uses a suture suspension system to refine, restore and smooth contours while supporting the underlying neck tissue. Dr. Chernoff will discuss which procedure is best to accomplish your facial anti-aging goals.
