A new dermal filler that improves jawline structure is now offered by Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery in Santa Rosa by our triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Gregory Chernoff. Our practice is one of the first plastic surgery practices to offer this innovative treatment, called Volux.
What is Volux?
Volux is the newest injectable in the Juvéderm collection of dermal fillers. It is composed of a gel specifically designed to improve jawline definition and is the first FDA-approved dermal filler created for that purpose.
What is Poor Jawline Definition?
Individuals with jowling and/or a poorly-developed jawlines are classic examples of poor jawline definition. This can occur as a result of genetics, weight gain/loss cycles, normal aging, or a combination of these features. Over the years, Dr. Chernoff, who is board certified by The American Board of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, has improved the jawline silhouette of many patients in the Santa Rosa area through the use of a variety of techniques, both surgical (through the Y-Lift procedure) and non-surgical.
Who Is A Good Candidate For Volux?
The most suitable candidates for Volux are those with subtle jowling, an undefined jawline, and a desire to avoid a surgical procedure. Unfortunately, patients with hanging skin and/or major jowling do not experience significant improvement with Volux. For these patients, Dr. Chernoff recommends other options, which would be discussed during consultation.
How Does Volux Compare with Voluma and Other Juvéderm Dermal Fillers?
Like other Juvéderm dermal fillers, Volux is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler. Unlike other Juvéderm dermal fillers, Volux is considerably firmer, enabling the patient to enjoy added definition to the jawline without added bulk.
How Long Does Volux Last?
Although each patient is slightly different in terms of the longevity of any filler, Volux clinical studies have shown jawline improvement lasting up to a year after treatment. Of note, study results also reflect the amount of Volux injected.
Is Volux Safe?
Like all Allergan products, including Botox and the other Juvéderm fillers, Volux has undergone vigorous clinical trials to assure patients of its safe use.
Treatment with Juvéderm Volux XC
Injection of Volux XC filler is, like other dermal filler injections, a brief office treatment that can be done over a lunch break. Both Dr. Chernoff and his nurse injectors are trained to deliver dermal fillers, including Volux, at the right volume and location to ensure the best results.
After a numbing cream is applied to the treatment area prior to injections, the area is cleansed, and injections are made. As with other Juvéderm fillers, Juvéderm Volux XC includes lidocaine to increase patient comfort. After the injections are completed, ice packs are applied to the treatment area(s) to minimize bruising, and patients can immediately return to their work and/or social calendar.
Recovery from a Volux Injection
Following the procedure, patients may experience swelling in the treated area(s), which is temporary and quite normal. Swelling will subside within one to two hours. Other side effects include mild-to-moderate bruising, particularly in patients who bruise easily. Some patients choose to continue to ice the area after the procedure, although most return to work or social activities immediately.
What Is The Allergan Allē Reward Program?

Allē rewards products include BOTOX Cosmetic, CoolSculpting, Latisse, and the entire Juvéderm collection of dermal fillers.
