The Nefertiti Lift: Redefining the Neck and Jawline Without Surgery

The Nefertiti Lift is a rejuvenation procedure inspired by Queen Nefertiti, the Egyptian queen, known for her striking beauty, long, elegant neck and well-defined, sculpted jawline.  The Nefertiti lift procedure involves expertly and precisely placed Botox or other neuromodulators injections to improve the jawline and neck.   The injections relax the platysma muscles that pull the jawline and neck downward cause sagging and allows the skin to lift naturally.

While the Nefertiti lift does not offer the dramatic results compared to a surgical face and neck lift, it can be a great option for those interested in a less invasive way to improve the neck appearance or maintain surgical results.   The treatment is quick, with minimal downtime, and the results are visible within a few days to a week.

How does the platysma muscle and neck aging contribute to an aging appearance?

  • Gravity: The effects of gravity over time can pull the skin downward. As the platysma loses strength and definition, the skin starts to droop, contributing to the appearance of sagging skin, especially in the neck and jawline area.
  • Chronic Muscle Contraction: If the platysma muscle is frequently contracted or tensed (sometimes due to expressions like frowning or grimacing), it can lead to permanent indentations and sagging in the skin over time.
  • Muscle Weakening and Loss of Elasticity: As you age, the platysma muscle, like other muscles in the body, can weaken. When it becomes less toned, it can no longer support the overlying skin as effectively. This loss of muscle tone, combined with decreased skin elasticity (which happens as collagen production slows down with age), leads to sagging skin.
  • Fat Redistribution: Aging can also lead to changes in fat distribution. The fat that was once more evenly distributed across the face and neck can start to accumulate under the chin, or in the jawline, causing more tension and sagging around the platysma bands.
  • Loss of Collagen and Elastin: As we age, our body produces less collagen and elastin, which are essential for skin firmness and elasticity. This makes the skin more prone to sagging, especially in areas where muscles like the platysma are less able to support the skin.

Who is a candidate for a Nefertiti Lift?

The best candidate for a Nefertiti lift is someone who has prominent platysma neck bands and not a significant amount of extra skin and fat on the neck.    For people with hanging neck skin and a large amount of fat on the neck and under, we may recommend submental liposuction in combination with a deep plane face and neck lift.

Is a Nefertiti Lift Painful?

Since a Nefertiti lift involves Botox and Neurotoxin injections, most patients do not experience much pain with the treatment.  Patients should expect to have a similar experience with a Nefertiti lift as they do with traditional neurotoxin injections.

How much does a Nefertiti lift cost?

The cost of Nefertiti lift can range from $300 to $1000 or more based on the units injected and if combination treatments such as dermal fillers or PDO threads are combined with the treatments.

Is there recovery time with a Nefertiti lift?

If your Nefertiti lift involves only Botox or other Neurotoxins, there will be no recovery time involved in the treatment.   If Dermal Fillers, PDO Threads, or other treatments, patients my experience some swelling or redness at the injection site but still no significant recovery time is needed.

What are the treatment alternatives to a Nefertiti Lift?

To prevent or reduce platysma bands and skin sagging, some patients opt for treatments like Botox (to relax the muscle), laser therapy, or surgical interventions like neck lifts. Regular skincare to boost collagen production or procedures aimed at tightening the skin (such as radiofrequency or ultrasound treatments) can also help counteract sagging.
