Who Can Benefit From Facial Implants?

Men and women who have some of the following concerns may benefit from a chin or cheek implant:

  • A weak, receding chin
  • Lack of fullness in your cheeks
  • Facial asymmetry or deformities

Implants can restore contours and proportion to your face. All facial implant procedures are preceded by a consultation with Dr. Greg Chernoff to ensure the procedure is the right option for the patient’s aesthetic goals.

What Are Facial Implants?

At Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Greg Chernoff offers facial implants for the chin and the cheeks.

Chin Implants (Mentoplasty)

Chin implantation or chin augmentation is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of a receding chin. Chin implants are made of biocompatible silicon and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Chin implants bring out the definition of the face and can correct the side effects of age by lifting sagging skin in the lower face.

Cheek Implants

This outpatient surgical procedure restores or creates prominent cheek bones. Cheek implant surgery can be performed on its own or with other facial rejuvenation procedures like facelifts. Cheek implants are available in a variety of sizes, shapes, and materials, allowing patients to customize their results.

How is a Facial Implant Performed?

Patients undergoing a chin or cheek implant will be sedated using twilight or general anesthesia. Local anesthesia is also applied to the lower face to further numb the treatment area. For a chin implant, a small incision will be made on the inside of the front portion of your mouth and the chin implant is inserted. Once the implant has been positioned and secured, dissolving stitches and flesh-colored tape will be used to hold the implant in place.

For a cheek implant, the implants are inserted through the mouth where the implant will sit inside your cheek. A pocket is formed and Dr. Chernoff secures the implant. Since the implants are done through natural creases, they are undetectable by the human eye.

Implant patients report some moderate discomfort, aching, and/or numbness in the first few days following treatment. It is not uncommon to experience some swelling and bruising. Medication will be prescribed to minimize discomfort during the recovery process. We recommend patients take five to seven days off from work or school to ensure proper healing.*

Preparing for Facial Implants Facial Surgery

Prior to any surgical procedure, Dr. Chernoff recommends that all our patients read our “Patient Guide for Plastic Surgery”. The guide explains important points that all patients should think about as they are considering a procedure.

What Results Can You Expect After Your Facial Implants?

The final results of your chin implant should be visible approximately six weeks following the procedure. Any swelling associated with the procedure should be gone at this time. Final results will be visible about four to six weeks after the surgery after swelling has reduced.*

Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery patients who travel to our Santa Rosa office for their Facial Implants can choose to stay in our Guest House after their procedure. Our staff will advise you with the details.

Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery also offers patients a non-surgical option to enhance the contours of the face. This procedure is called Y-Lift® and uses a precise sub-muscular placement of long-lasting dermal fillers to create facial contours.* Dr. Chernoff is among an elite group of Surgeons trained and certified to perform the Y-Lift.
