Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are a common skin condition as they occur when the skin is stretched causing long, narrow lines that develop on the skin. Although, stretch marks can occur on men and women, they are more typically seen on women. Stretch marks often develop due to pregnancy, weight gain and loss.

Stretch marks can be a source of insecurity for most people. Fortunately, there are several minimally invasive treatment options to help reduce stretch marks. At Chernoff Cosmetic Surgery in Santa Rosa, we use combination therapy to improve the appearance of stretch marks. These treatments help improve skin texture, stimulate the production of collagen in the body and tighten the skin.

What Are Stretch Marks?

Stretch marks occur due to the simple continual pulling and stretching of the skin marks. Stretch marks sometimes appear when you rapidly gain or lose weight and during pregnancy. Teenagers may also notice stretch marks after a sudden growth spurt. The most common areas affected include the stomach, buttocks, breast, hips, and thighs. For some people, stretch marks are a significant cosmetic concern that can affect day-to-day living.

Prior to any treatment or procedure, Dr. Chernoff or one of our trained and certified Health Care Providers determine if you are a candidate, review the risk and benefits, and provide all possible treatment alternatives.

DOT LASER THERAPY FOR STRETCH MARKS

Dermal Optical Thermolysis (DOT) laser therapy helps improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of stretch marks. This treatment uses a fractionated CO2 laser to create a customized pattern of thousands of microscopic “dots” in the skin, which causes the skin to immediately tight and stimulates collagen production. DOT laser therapy works to improve the appearance of acne scars, deep wrinkles, stretch marks and fine lines. Results can typically be seen after the first session.*

OTHER THERAPEUTIC TREATMENTS FOR STRETCH MARKS

Light treatments use light-based energy to break down scar tissue created by the stretching of the skin and stimulate collagen production. Focus pulse light treatment smooths the skin and reduces the discoloration associated with stretch marks. Microneedling and Microneedle RF provide excellent results. Dr. Chernoff will often combine laser and light-based treatments with topical applications to further improve results.

SKIN PEELS TO TREAT STRETCH MARKS

There are several chemical peel options, including our sensitive skin peel, pigment balancing peel, and corrective peel. A medicated solution is applied to the skin and allowed to absorb for a specific amount of time before being neutralized. In the next one to fourteen days following treatment, the skin will peel or flake off to reveal new, healthy skin.*

Chemical peels can improve sun damage, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and reduce the appearance of scars. Our skin peel treatments can be customized to meet the individual needs of each patient.
